Prenatal Yoga
Prenatal Yoga helps a woman become accustomed to the natural
instinctive yoga-like positions that most women prefer to use during
labor, and birth. Prenatal yoga also provides an opportunity to
explore ones response to pain, and develop relaxation, and coping
strategies for labor when the pain contractions will exceed ones
usual threshold.
Because of the physiological changes involving the flexibility, and
suppleness of joints, and ligaments during, and after pregnancy, it is
important that Yoga practiced pre, and post natal, should always be
done with care. Always notify your instructor of your current
condition, and listen to your body.
If you already have a regular yoga practice you may be able to
continue with your normal practice, with a few variations of the
postures, as the baby grows in the womb. Listen to your own body.
Some mothers continue their normal practice, and have no problems
with backbends, handstands, shoulder stands, and headstands, while
others find they need to stop these more advanced postures, and
practice more passive, restorative postures.
