Deb & Roger’s YB Travel Adventures to Sydney Australia 2008
Having spent more than 17 years traveling all over Asia, in 2008 when we were leaving Bali for New Zealand and felt it was the right time for a stop over in Sydney. While four days isn’t long, it was enough for us to give it a once over.
We stayed at the Y Hotel conveniently located right at Hyde Park. Other than the rooms being small, it was clean, modern and had all the amenities. From here we were able to walk just about everywhere, opting to go through the park on our way to the Botanical Gardens, and Sydney Opera House.
We could also walk to some of the popular suburbs like Darlinghurst, and Kings Cross. China Town was also close and we love Asia food so that was a nice treat from western fare. And the atmosphere was really festive.
They have a great mass transportation system which includes, subways, trains, buses and the water ferries. A day trip to Manly beach via the ferry is a must do, it is a beautiful area, and being on the water exhilerating. The return trip offers superb views of the City, and Opera House.
One day we took the bus to Bondi Beach. And another the train out to Kiama to see the blow hole. Sydney is a lot like parts of Florida with water everywhere, and lots of green. Not a large city compared to New York, it is just the right size for us, is sophisticated, yet laid back, the food fantastic, and the climate, at least when we were there, sunny, warm and tropical. We will definitely be returning.
