Yoga Bound Travel Adventures:
Bali, Indonesia to Bangkok,
Thailand
Bangkok after Bali
was so a bit of an
adjustment. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a fun city, with lots to see,
and do, for a couple of days anyway. And, it is much easier to get
around than it use to be. They have a sky train. And, the new subway
system opened in August. It's also cleaner than cities in places
like India. But it is not Bali. It is a city, and it has been
raining, so it is hot, and humid. Bangkok has 3 seasons. Hot,
hotter, hottest. Personally, I have no problem with this, as I
prefer hot to cold any day.
We are here for
just a short time. Just long enough to meet with my tech guys to
make some adjustments to the websites,
and to get our Visa’s, and tickets to India. We were also going to Kathmandu in Nepal,
but decided against it when the Maoist surrounded the city. With the
instability we didn't want to take any chances. Though traveling
in these parts is indeed, much, much, safer than at
home, you still must be aware, and careful. No reason to put
yourself in harms way.
The afternoon we arrived
from Bali, we met up with
friends Mark, and his Thai wife Supinya. Mark had only just arrived
back in Bangkok from the States the previous day, so we coordinated
our return with his. Roger has been traveling to Thailand for almost
two decades. He loves it, and talks
about it so much that about 6 years ago, Mark decided to visit. He,
too, liked it so much,
he went home, sold everything, and moved here. He now lives up in
northeast in a village called Sisaket
The next day we
went to Pan Thip Plaza, the electronics shopping center, to buy a
Syms card for our phone, and to get the computer checked out. For
some reason some of my keys had stopped working. Typical of a
machine, when I took it in, it worked, exhibiting none of the
problems it previously suffered from.
Later that day we
met up with Mark, and Supinya again before they caught the night
train home. The next day I took a complete day off. No Yoga. No
going anywhere. Absolutely nothing. I stayed in my room, and read.
It was wonderful. Monday I met with my tech guy. Tuesday we went to
the Indian Embassy, applied for our Visa’s, and booked our
tickets to India.
I also took some
time out for some personal maintenance that I didn’t get around to
it in Bali. So I had a hair cut, color, manicure, pedicure, and felt
like a new woman afterwards. But in reality, I simply
looked like my old self, instead of the long haired blonde I became
in Bali from the sun, and saltwater.
Roger left on the
night train to SisaKet to visit Mark, and Supinya. I stayed in
Bangkok to finish up some business. I have spent several days
on the Internet, and computer getting things up to date before we
leave here September 15th for India. We will return to
Bangkok November 1st,. Then leave for home November
14th.
I’ve been waking
up in the morning, and doing Yoga in my room. Not much room, so I
don’t do my entire practice, but anything is better than nothing.
The hard part about traveling, is that you don’t always have a place
to do your practice. All work, and no play is no fun, so I took a
break, and had a wonderful Thai massage for two hours, just 350 baht
($8.75) including tip. It is easy to indulge yourself here. Now,
it’s back to work, so that I can have some fun while we are on our
trip to India.
