Yoga Bound Travel Adventures:
Leaving Largo, Florida for our 6 month trip to
Thailand, Bali and India
It's been an exciting month, with lots
to do to get ready for our trip. There is so much to attend to
in preparation for leaving one's life for such an extended period of
time. I had to get
subs to cover my yoga classes, get the rest of my products sold,
clear out the warehouse, handle the mail, the lawn, and all the
other
things, big, and small that go along with taking off for 6 months. Roger,
too, has had his hands full, but we are progressing nicely.
It’s our annual
manufacturing, buying trip, yoga study, life enhancement, spirit
lifter, and the like. If you go to the website you’ll see that most
everything is sold out. THANK YOU for your continued support. And
look for more great products coming in the Fall. We leave on
May 24th,
and won’t be home until November 14th. Our first stop, as
usual, is Bangkok where we’ll spend about a month roaming around Thailand.
Then we’ll be off to Bali for almost 3 months, then back to Bangkok, then to India,
and maybe Nepal.
Arriving Bangkok, Thailand
We arrived in
Bangkok, fat, and happy. I say this because we flew Business Class
(I am spoiled), and slept, ate, and drank our way across the
friendly skies. We arrived in Bangkok at midnight, so by the time we
collected our bags, got through immigration, and arrived at the
hotel, it was 1:30 in the morning . Of course we had slept like babies on the
plane, so we weren’t the least bit tired. After checking into the
hotel, we took a stroll down the busy street of Sukhumvit.
For the next few
days we woke up when we felt like it, took naps if we needed to, and
just gave ourselves a few days to get adjusted to the 12 hour time
difference. It really isn’t that bad. I have had a worse time when
flying to the West Coast of the U.S.. Plus, we have plenty of time
so you don't feel like you have to fit everything in right away.
Roger scheduled
his appointment for his 'Well Man's' physical at Bumrungrad Hospital.
Glad to report that all is well. I worked with my tech people, and
Roger, and I went all over the city. By sky train, by boat, we hit
all of our favorite spots, from the temples of Wat Pho, and the
Royal Palace, to Kho San Road, to the weekend market. We even had
drinks at the Peninsula Hotel on the Chao Phraya River.
Roger went on
ahead of me down to the islands, and began his fast. I stayed in
Bangkok a few more days to have my knees looked at, and to finish up
some projects, then joined up with him on Koh Samui shortly
thereafter. The islands of Southern Thailand are exceptional. That
is why we do our Yoga Retreats
there. Everyone needs time out of their busy schedule to relax,
rejuvenate, and to simply be. That is exactly what we did.
From there we took
the boat over to Koh Pha-Ngan for what was to be three days, but we
love it there, in the bay of Hat Yuan, that we ended up staying a
week. You have to make it on one of our Yoga trips. It is such a
beautiful, quiet, and
secluded place. And, if you want activity,
night life, internet, your phone to work, you simply hop on a long
tail boat, and head to the next town, Hat Rin, which is just one bay
over.
Roger, and I
actually hiked our way back over the mountain one day. We took the
long boat to Hat Rin, but decided a bit of extreme exercise would do us
good. Well two hours later, we were wondering if we’d ever make it
to Hat Yuan. While I will say it was an experience, we weren't
wanting to repeat it any time soon, especially when it started to rain, and
we had to walk over a mountain path that was only suitable for
goats, slipping, and sliding our way up, and down the mountain.
Our room was a
Villa high up on the hill, surrounded by coconut palms. We could see
the entire bay, and the sunrises were spectacular. Doors on three
sides opened up, and since we prefer fresh air to air conditioning, we used the
mosquito net, and kept everything open. The sound of the surf rising
up, and the wind rustling through the fronds of the coconut palms
was so soothing, we slept like babies. Each morning we awoke to the
most magnificent sunrises. We ate great food, and simply gave
ourselves some time to chill out.
When we left there
we took the boat back to Samui, then a song thaew (pickup truck) to NaThon
town, then a bus to the ferry boat, then the ferry boat to Don Sak,
then a bus to the train station in Surat Thani. We had a bite to eat
across from the train station, then headed over to find our car
for the overnight train ride back to Bangkok. We love this type of
adventure, and have the time to do it without it creating
pressure. But on our yoga adventure travel trips, you take a direct
flight from Bangkok to Samui, and only have to experience a bit of
this.
